Nacho Hamburger Helper-Homemade

Ingredients

12 oz uncooked elbow macaroni

2-3 tbsp taco seasoning

1 16 oz can/jar of queso

¾ lb of cooked hamburger

1-15 oz can of diced tomatoes

1 green pepper, diced

1 large onion, diced

This recipe will make about 8 cups

Directions:

1. Cook the noodles according to the package instructions.
2. In a separate pan, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned.
3. Add the onions and green peppers, sauté them with the beef until softened.
4. Once the beef is cooked, rinse thoroughly to remove any excess fat
5. Once the noodles are cooked and drained, add the cooked beef, cheese, tomatoes, and taco seasoning.
6. Stir well to combine, allowing the mixture to heat through.
7. Line your trays with parchment
8. Evenly distribute the casserole onto your trays.
9. Add dividers if using, We like 10 portions for this recipe
10. Pre-freeze until solid.
11. Freeze dry (my cycle time was 28 hours)
12. Store in one serving portions in mylar bags for long-term storage.

 

Rehydration: 

Add 3 divider portions or about 1 ½ cups of freeze dried hamburger helper and 1 cup of hot water to a bowl or mylar bag cover or seal the bag for 3 minutes. Stir and cover for an additional 3 minutes. Enjoy


Notes:

This makes a great camping or road trip meal. You can rehydrate and eat it right out of a mylar bag
